Psalm 34:19 says, "Many evils confront the [consistently] righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all." I am often amazed when I hear Christians complaining and bewildered because something goes wrong in their life. It seems as though the false idea of that now that you're a believer, nothing wrong or bad is ever going to happen to you. This thought or even teaching is contrary to God's Word. David brings out this truth and lets us know that as we set ourselves to live righteous and holy before the Lord we will face many afflictions, evils, and troubles.
I Peter 4:12 says, "Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you." Here again we are being warned of fiery trials that will come our way. Notice that David said tests would come to the consistently righteous and here Peter says tests come to the beloved. This tells me that a test doesn't mean I am missing it or I've fallen into sin. It means that my adversary, the devil, is doing all he can to discourage me and to keep me from fulfilling God's Will in my life.
So what am I to do? The answer is in God's Word. Psalm 34:19 also says, "...but the Lord delivers him out of them all." Thank God that for every test the devil throws at me, God has already prepared a way for me to overcome it. I Corinthians 10:13 says, "No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it." No matter what you're facing today, God has already set up an escape route for you and you can be victorious.
The key now is for you to keep your heart full of faith and spiritually strong. To do this, the Lord has prepared continual spiritual refreshings for us so we won't grow weary and faint. So today, I encourage you to take your eyes off the test and put them on God's provision. Set yourself to receive a fresh anointing of God's Spirit. To help you do this, I encourage you to study the outline and listen to the message, "Continual Spiritual Refreshings."
